Biography

Eeva Paavela (1997) is a Helsinki based painter, who graduated as bachelor of fine arts from the Academy of Fine Arts of Helsinki in 2023, and has since continued on to the master’s degree program. She also attended the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna through an exchange program.

In her work she uses traditional oil painting techniques while working on linen. The resulting works are naturalistic, figurative paintings. Central themes in her work include memory, interpersonal relationships and affective bodily experiences. She also takes great interest in the material aspects of painting and the painting object itself. A recurring theme in Paavela’s work is to evoke a sense of intimacy through attraction. While the images may at first glance appear reserved and taciturn, they are signaling to the viewer to come closer. The paintings do not declare anything, but rather invite the viewer to an intimate conversation.
